There needs to be an easier way to drag new tasks to top or bottom of list. Or have them default to either the top or bottom instead of, seemingly, randomly dropping in the list.

It depends on what priority you give it.
P1 first (urgent and important)
P3 second (urgent but not important)
P2 third
And then the rest.
