Moving 1 instance of a repeating task to another day kills all instances

I created a task that repeats weekly.  One week I had to move the task to a different day (drag and drop).  Now the task is gone.  This has happened to multiple tasks.

I am guessing it was an instance rather than the parent because I merely dragged it from one day's column to the next.  editing a parent requires a different action, right?
